Glastonbury 2009

As mentioned before I am obsessed with Glastonbury, only went for the first time in 2007 and I have not shut up about it since. I make no apologises for that and I Glastobate every day, whether checking for ticket re-sales for ticketless friends and friends of friends or looking though the forums, again just to make sure I have not missed anything.

I mention above that, "I make no apologises for that and I Glastobate every day", well I should apologise to one person, Mrs Acid, aka Top cat, who always wanted to go to Glastonbury in the late 90s, but I always vetoed the idea saying why would we want to go there, all that mud all those hippies, obviously rubbish. I know better now, however because of ankle biting acidettes it is now virtually impossible for Top cat to make it, opps, bad Captain Acid.

Glastonbury 2009:

Introduction
The only things you ever hear in the news about Glastonbury are the drugs, the mud, the toilets. Considering the liberal supply of all manner of stimulants, and the sheer numbers of people involved, it’s remarkable that violent incidents should continue to be as few and far between as usable lavatories. The fact is that the English Summer just does not seem complete without this epic solstice gathering of the clans. It’s not just the music, even though they regularly have the bands you most want to see. It’s not even the circus field, or the theatre tent, or the green fields complete with stone circle and tipi enclosure, or the healing field, or the wandering performance artists, or the monuments of scrap cars, or the availability of food from every nationality, or the provision of all manner of recreational possibilities twenty-four hours a day. It’s the people.

The great British press are keen to perpetuate the myth that Glastonbury represents a coming together of all the dread-locked Eco-terrorists, the Great Unwashed. What they fail to realise is that for every twig-haired, drug-addled didgeridoo carver called Wurzel you come across, you will meet ten slightly dishevelled, scrumpy-sozzled trainee quantity surveyors called Colin. For the most part, the Glastonbury Festival attracts not those with a tenuous grasp on reality but those with such a firm grasp on it that they understand the need to leave it behind once in a while.

Anyway enough about Glastonbury in general and onto the report.

Wednesday

12.00
Tipi pitched, Cider in one hand, Woo-woo in the other, sun is shinning oh yes, great feeling of knowing what is coming.

14.00
Dressed as pirate, this happens every year.

14.30
Attempt to drink body weight in cider from the cider bus begins, this happens every year.

17.00
Back at tipi for more woo-woos and cider.

18.00
K1no has the first of many naps.

19.00
Walk to The Park with NME, couple of vodka ices in the Park Bar, test out some pills (all duds)

22.00
Back to the cider bus, to meet up with the rest of the lads.

00.30
Still at cider bus, NME and I have some cocaine to keep us going.

01.00
Loony woman appears, we can not shake her off, have pill (dud).

01.30
Meet some new friends, this happens every year

02.00
Go to stone circle with new friends, NME stops every 50 metres shines torch on head and shouts regroup, this is the funniest thing I see all festival, however it works we reach stone circle with new friends.

02.30
At stone circle, sit down with new friends, NME has some CK1 (cocaine and ketamine mixed) in a snuff snorter. I have never had ketamine before so this will be a first time for me. We pass it round one snort each, seems to be taking a while to work, of course always difficult to know how much of each substance you are getting, on four snorts for me, everybody else on three, really start to feel the effects.

03.00
It is as if only our group exists, I can see nor hear anything else, Rich keeps saying, "slow burn" as the effects slowly sneak up on everybody, I am convinced I am going to go back to Wales with the Lady who I was talking to on my left previously, experiencing time dilation and often think I am coming out of it, only to be proved wrong, experience a little nausea, although never close to actually throwing up. I must of looked like a train wreck as I have never had so many people say to me, "are you alright", nothing like that to make you feel paranoid, well I thought I was okay until you said that!

04.30
Effect worn off enough to stand and stagger and stumble back down the hill, pop into the toilets and just manage to avoid the dreaded "ghost wee" and get a lovely long refreshing wee out, oh yes.

05.00
Back at tipi straight to bed, no previous experience with ketamine and I expected to drop straight to sleep as it is an anaesthetic, jeez was I wrong.

05.30
Lying awake in sleeping bag, getting very cold, shaking and shivering uncontrollably, admittedly it is cold outside but this seems excessive.

06.00
As above.

07.00
Can not sleep but no more shivering.

08.00
Give up with this sleeping malarkey get up

Thursday

09.00
Feeling good except obviously tired, no crash or nasty come down at all.

09.30 - 19.00
Wander around site drink a little cider.

23.00
At tipi, NME, Johnny Ferrari and I, place 250mg of Mephedrone in a rizla and swallow it, (parachute), never taken this substance in this way before.

23.15
At dance area need to rush to the toilet for urgent bowel movement, oh yes feel better for that, must be at least a 10lbs lighter

23.20 - 23.30
Definitely coming up now, warm exciting feeling coming from belly and chest, tingles in legs, very alert, stimulated.

23.30 - 00.30
Now at The Glade area, dancing and feeling very good, feels different a little better than the previous time on this substance, getting plenty of euphoria, well being, and very stimulated. Johnny Ferrari in his poncho, is doing particularly well also.

00.30
Back at Dance Village, probably re-dosed 250mg at around this time, do not lose another 10lbs on this occasion.

01.00 - 02.30
Re-dose has kicked in big time, right back where I was before.

02.30
Re-dosed again around this time, on this occasion no hitting the same high as before, although still worthwhile

04.30
Back at tipi, I am now aware that I have done 750mg in one session similar amount as before (Egg Kings Cross) and I am worried about a similar crash.

05.00
Breakfast ciders are interrupted be ever increasing rain, forced inside tipi for sleep.

05.00 - 09.00
Do not feel like I sleep however I must have surely got a little sleep.

Friday

09.00
Get up, very relieved to find out that I have no crash whatsoever, I am however tired, not that big a surprise that one.

09.30 - 20.00
Wander around site see some bands drink some cider and Woo-woos, general festival things.

20.00 - 21.00
Relaxing at tipi, k1no tries 250mg of Mephedrone, for the first time and quickly wins gurn of the year award, he literally can not move his jaw, we reassure him the effect is not permanent. This was however unbelievably amusing, poor lad.

23.00
Parachute 250mg what I have been sold as MDMA power, had this been what it purported to be, that would have been one heavy dose and I would have been on one hardcore trip baby, however it was not. I had the exact same feeling as the previous night, even including the, oh dear bathroom time effect, this does not happen to me on MDMA. I start to come up, the tingles, but I never make it. For some reason this freaks me out a little and rather than trying again, maybe with Mephedrone, I call the research part of the night off and switch back to vodka red bull and cider.

05.00
Breakfast ciders at tent.

05.30 - 08.00
Again do not feel like I sleep, however at 08.00 tipi turns into a sauna and I get up, NME and K1no unfazed by inferno.

Saturday

08.00
No crash, as expected or hangover just tired

09.00 - 00.30
Actually see some bands drink some cider.

00.30 - 03.00
Head to late night areas, do not take anything for some reason, it is the last night what the hell I am saving myself for I just do not know. NME gives me a cheeky pill at about 02.00 and 10 minutes later declared he is going back to the tent, I would not have taken it had I thought I was researching on my own, the other guys are with me but none are "researching". Issue is resolved as I can barely feel anything from the pill, I must be a hard head in this respect as NME was buzzing on one of these the previous night.

03.30
Back at tipi a good night sleep is had.

Sunday

10.00
Get up nice breakfast is had, we decide to leave to miss traffic, I am missing the kids, and the van driver really wants to go.

12.00
Back in the van driving off site.

Debriefing
Do not seem to need anything like the amount of sleep I thought.
I will never understand, why I never made a bigger attempt to on the Friday night to allow the drugs to work, another re-dose would definitely have done it. However all this is 20/20 hindsight, and at the time I was being overly cautious which is no bad thing. This experience did prompt me whilst at Bestival later in the year to push the research much harder much further to see what the limits were before the drugs stopped working and the side effects exceeded the benefits. It turns out the limits were further than I thought, what a weekend that was.

Egg Kings Cross 23 May 2009

Welcome to my first report of the blog, in this report as in all the others to follow I shall be 100% honest and as accurate as my memory permits, I also promise faithfully to include any and all of the bad effects as well as the good.

Substance taken: Mephedrone / Random pill contents unknown
Date: 23 May 2009
Venue: Egg, Kings X
Weight:180lbs
Height: 6' 1"
Total Dose: Scales not used, or owned at the time, probably approx. 500mg all (Insufflated) One Pill Oral
Route of ingestion: Insufflated / Oral
Main effects: Empathy, Music appreciation, would not shut up, body buzz, eye wiggles, unsteadiness, on redose
Side effects :Some jaw tension, paranoia, sweating

Introduction
Not tried this substance before, open mind, open nose.
Met up with dropping mate on this occasion it was NME (Nicest Man in Europe)

22.30
In the pub nipped to the toilet, Insufflated, approx 10-20mg, eyeballed dose no real idea how much.

22.40
No effect, maybe a little anxious feeling, probably nothing.

22.50
Still nothing, leave pub head for club, wait for NME, have urge to chat with random people sitting round a fire in the middle of the market, manage to resist, thought that was odd, but thought no more about it.

23.00
Club having issues, with something; not ready to open or something, go to different club, still nothing.

00.00
Enter, new and improved club, (Egg Kings X) check it out seems really good, been wanting to go here for a while.

00.10
Go to toilet measure out two fat lines, good noseful, convinced at this point, gear is rubbish a dud, a waste of time, from more recent experience dose was 150 – 200mg. Insufflated, right up the hooter, jeez does it taste bad down the throat, go back to the bar.

00.13
Okay thinking maybe this gear is actually working, fast, very fast come up, elevated heart rate, warm glow from chest, very pleasant, start wanting to talk to NME, I will not shut up all night, must have driven him mad.

00.30 – 02.00
After talking non-stop, we hit the dance floor, all music seems fantastic even hardcore drum and bass and nobody likes that shit, huge pupils, insist on drinking lager as well, amazing gear, not the high euphoric sensation of MDMA, more speedy, but very very good in its own right, sweating a little, keep spinning round on the dance floor, concerned everybody is watching me, although this does not bother me. Mate wrestles lager away from me and makes me drink water.

02.00 - 02.30
Coming down, but still very nice, no feeling of needing to redoes just yet, have lost NME talking to random people, I must look like I having a great time, was asked more times than ever what I was on where did I get, I act dumb, easy for me that.

02.30
Find NME, he is on pills of dubious and untested nature, try one of those, this as it turns out, seems to have no effect.

03.00
Nip to toilet for redose, there is a bouncer in the toilets, I am paranoid as hell now, hold it together manage, to pretend to go for wee, he clears off, jump into stall, heart is pumping, worried and anxious. Want more gear, but thinking the bouncer is coming back to “get me”, take stash, out of pocket, still in wrap, to worried to make a line, so in a, “I need this NOW and quick”, kind of way, sick rolled up note straight into, stash and sniff, god knows how much I took, either way I do the same with the other nostril. From more experience since this day I had at between 250 - 300mg.

03.10
Leave toilets, before bouncer “comes to get me”, I get all the effects at once like being hit by a freight train, eye wiggles: check, sweating: check, unsteady on my feet like I have had 12 pints of lager: check, huge body ruses: check. Manage to wobble back to NME, he is concerned by the look of me, and gets me to sit down and have some water.

03.15
Eye wiggles are massive, almost all the time, lucky I find this amusing and not to disorienting. I try and text, I have approx two seconds to find the next letter before eye wiggles make the operation impossible.

03.45
Mate suggests we move go for a walk, this was a good idea, still a little unsteady, but no more than a 5 pint clubber now, starting to feel good, realise I over did the re-dose, hey nothing gets past me.

04.00 - 06.00
Back on the dance floor, even drum and bass sounds good, I mention to NME that this gear has made my legs ache, he says, "it is not the gear, but because you have been dancing for 4 hours", good point I think. At some point I suggest taking some more, NME INSISTS we leave, good call.

06.30 – 08.00
Have the longest journey home ever, time dilatation I would guess, have to change trains, a pigeon is cooing, I start to dance to the beat, thank god it is so early in the morning and nobody notices.

08.00- 12.00
Bad come down, paranoid, shakes, sweating, I am hot I am cold, not sure, cant sleep cant do anything, sleep comes in two hours, I sleep for 2 hours, get up feeling very tired but apart from that okay.

Debriefing
At the time immediately after I was back to baseline, I presumed the massive come down was due to the amount taken, and whilst this remains a possibility, as it was my first time with this substance and thus tolerance would be low. However with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, the best kind, and more experience of the substance, the more likely culprit was the pill of unknown origin or contents. Although I felt no positive effects from it at the time, or effects of any kind for that matter, these could easily have been masked by the big mephedrone effects.

Therefore lessons learned: NEVER take a pill that has not be tested either by a VERY reliable source, or better still with pill testing kit Marquis Reagent.

The Begining of Bat Country

Firstly this was not my idea, but then all the best ideas were not my idea, sliced bread - not my idea, dunking biscuits in tea - not my idea, half time pies at football matches - not my idea, in fact that last one is a bad idea, have you ever had a nice pie at half time at a football match? no I thought not, anyway why are they all about food? Picnics - not my idea, Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts - not my idea, not only not my idea, but a non-food idea, an idea I would like say was and is better than sliced bread. Enough I digress, digress from what I am not sure because a subject has yet to become apparent.

To those of you who know me, and as this is will be completely anonymous you wont, that said if it were possible that someone reading this could somehow realise they knew the author of this meandering crap they would not be surprised that I managed to get a reference to Glastonbury in on the first page.

Firstly I do not expect anyone to actually read this, I am thinking it is almost completely for my own benefit, to keep a log of what have happened and is happening during my "research" period. Let us start with the basics a little about me and how I have come to my present situation at my time of life.

Firstly my name, as touched on above and in the style of the classic TV show Dragnet, "all names have been changed to protect the innocent" in that vain my name from this point on shall be Captain: Captain Acid, yes I know, it seemed like a good idea at the time, and if it is my metaphorical ship, which it is, then I am the fecking Captain, I may even be sitting here with a Captain's hat on for all you know complete with scrambled egg on the peak.

I am sitting here still trying and failing with the notion of why I am doing this, and I don't mean writing the blog as that we have covered, that was someone else's idea. I talk of the psychonautic research that the blog's title derives, there is a very very simple reason for this, oddly that is often overlooked, the plain simple fact of the matter is that recreation users do it for pleasure, they is no other reason and remembering that recreation users make up 97% of users this is the number one reason across the board.

There are of course other reasons for the usage, and I have decided this is not the place for that discussion, however for those interested the subject is covered in detail here Why do people take drugs? , in fact I can whole hearted recommend this site, namely: Transform Drug Policy Foundation

Anyway less flim-flam and more action:

My only intention with this blog is to document my experiences with recreational drugs, and as it happens the vast majority of these experiences are very recent, and this is not because I am a wide-eyed teenager just starting on a journey of psychedelic experimentation, quite the reverse as I am in fact the wrong side of 40. This makes me a late starter and perhaps gives me a different outlook, more likely this just makes me a bit strange.

Just one thing, before I start my journal of psychonautic research, before the start of my journey I completed lots of more traditional research, by that I mean reading about the substances, knowing the dosages, buying scales, and being prepared. That said the first time I was not as well prepared as I should have been, and that to date is the one time I have been bitten on the arse by it. So remember kids, Captain Acid, does not say, "just say NO!", but says "just do your research first you blockhead!"
